Wishing You

warmth and light

Hello Friends,

December 21st is the solstice. Winter, in the northern hemisphere, and summer, in the southern.

Solstices and Equinoxes are my favorite times of year. I love the celestial and terrestrial markers of time’s passage, and use these times to mark what’s happening in my life.

The ancients named this time “Sol Sistere” because from here on planet Earth, around the solstice, it appears that the sun stands still in the sky and then reverses its course.

Solstices for me are a time to slow down, take a breath, and take stock. They are also a time to rekindle my gratitude practice. I’m grateful for a warm home. I’m grateful for the beauty I see on my walks. I’m grateful for my health. I’m grateful for you.

It’s easy to get frantic trying to keep up with daily life—plus the pressure of added expectations—when the sun stands still. I hope that during this solstice season you gift yourself some space and time to slow down and take stock. Breathe in the beauty of the season.

Stand still.

Then ask yourself: what gifts do I treasure? What gifts do I share?
