Winter Gifts
for you
Hello friends,
It snowed, which is a rarity in Portland, Oregon. The years when we get the white stuff from the sky, it might last anywhere from one day to one week. So I’ve been out walking, enjoying the crunch of my boots cracking the surface, the gray skies, and all the rest of it.
I’m thankful as always, to have a warm place to come home to. I know too many others are not this fortunate.
I’m thankful for you, too. Thankful for you stopping by to read my words every week. So this week, I have a small gift to offer. It’s a short story I wrote a few years ago, with two of my favorite characters, Jax and Gabe. Their world is a mix of science, magic, and Goth clubs, and I’ve returned to it a few times.
This one is really a Jax story. It’s a bisexual, Pagan, yuletide tale about an encounter with a gorgeous musician and a bad Santa:
A bright red lace up lug soled boot emerged through the crack before the door opened all the way. Onto the most beautiful woman Jax had seen in a long time. Like, the kind of woman that made her mouth water. The kind of woman whose hair she could dig her fists into. A woman named Maybelline who claimed that Santa had stolen her soul...
I hope you enjoy it, it’s called Piece of Santa.
If you are in the Northern Hemisphere, I wish you warmth, joy, and a nice cup of tea. Southern Hemisphere friends? I’ll just wish you joy.
May your lives be blessed. I’ll be back next week with some ideas to help us enter 2023 with a little more magic.
best wishes — Thorn
