What Soothes Your Soul
and brings you joy?
Hello friends,
This week, I really needed to get outside for more than my prescribed eight minute walk through my neighborhood (after eight minutes, my balance gets really off. This makes grocery shopping…interesting). Spring is sproinging, as we like to say in my household, and we’ve had sun for a few days.
So, off to the wildlife refuge near the Willamette River we went.
And it was beautiful. Birds were calling. Moss was spreading over fallen logs. Hummingbirds dove and bobbed in their territorial dances.
Other people were enjoying the day, too. Children rode bicycles on the paved path. A birder raised his binoculars to the treetops, and stood, very still. Waiting.
I stood against an old, wood post fence, and just breathed.
It refreshed my soul. It brought me joy.
Sure, I weaved a bit while walking, and had to sit and close my eyes on a willing log, but that’s okay.* I was outside. In a different place.
I needed the change of venue, body, mind, and soul. I needed to watch a hummingbird, perched on a branch, turning its tiny head this way and that before it danced off again.
I needed to see the pink bells of flowers, a bright surprise on the trail just off the parking lot.
It was enough.
So today, I hope you find a way to shift perspective.
I hope you find a way to seek out a moment of clarity, or joy.
And speaking of shifting perspective and joy, here’s a Patreon-funded story about magic dancing on Icelandic beaches, and the power of stones.
Enjoy!
be well - Thorn
*for those playing along at home, don’t worry, I’m getting treated for my post-concussion syndrome. It just takes time.
