What Bridges
lift you up right now?
Hello friends,
While heading home from last week’s camping trip, we crossed a few bridges, two with fabulous Art Deco plinths, and one with gorgeous green steel girders. I caught the image of that one as we moved across the water.
I love bridges. Perhaps that comes from my three decades in San Francisco and the Bay Area. Bridges were a part of life, whether seen from a distance or crossing the bay that wraps the city. Did you know that the Golden Gate is where the bay meets the ocean? So many people think the bridge itself is the Golden Gate, but no, the bridge is named for the water it spans.
My second adopted city of Portland Oregon has two rivers that define its space—the Willamette and Columbia—and multiple bridges that span the waters, each with its distinct personality and form.
Bridges join things together. Bridges also lift things up, offering safe passage and perspective.
We all bridge many things: work, creativity, spiritual practice, family, community, social justice, enjoyment, relationships with humans, animals, and nature itself. We form bridges for other beings, and other beings form bridges for us.
So today I wonder: what do you bridge? And what lifts you up right now, supporting you on your way?
Wishing you good travels, whether in body, spirit, or mind.
