To Libraries, In Praise
of their power
Hello friends,
This week’s post goes out to all libraries and librarians everywhere! It’s inspired by getting a note from my local library that one of my novels was in stock and already had a waiting list! And then, when I checked my sales stats, I saw that a library had ordered more books in the same series.
What a way to make an author’s day. And how did this happen? Either a librarian found my books and ordered them, or—and this is more likely—a library patron, a reader like you or me, requested them.
What a wonderful world we live in, where readers can put in a request for any book in the world and ask a librarian to get it for us.
I was raised by libraries. I mean that quite literally. My home was often fraught and felt dangerous, so my favorite escape was into books. I spent hours and hours at the library: after school, on Saturdays… During summer, my little pin would go around and around the library reading challenge board as I made my way through book after book, sometimes one a day. If I forgot my library card, the kind librarians would check out my towering stack anyway.
They knew I’d be back soon enough. Librarians looked out for me.
Is it any wonder I grew up to be a writer?
So today, I thank libraries and sing their praises. I thank all the hardworking librarians out there, too. You change lives.
I cherish you for that.
best wishes — Thorn
Speaking of books… I’m part of a StoryBundle called Witches, Wands, and Wanderers. It is sliding scale, pay what you can and up through the end of the month.
And don’t forget to check out these witchy Kickstarter campaigns! My sigil magic project launches Tuesday.
