The Most Wonderful

time of the year

Hello Friends!

Happy autumn from the Northern Hemisphere. I’m enjoying the October weather this week. We’ve had a bit of rain, but now it is sunny and cool. I can wear boots every day. Hoodies. Jackets.

I’ve also started taking Vitamin D, because I can already feel the shorter, darker days ahead.

In general, I love these on-the-cusp, liminal times. Just as I love dusk and dawn, I love spring and fall. One door closes, and another space opens into the mystery of a new time. I admit to getting antsy if the liminal spaces continue for too long, though. I’ve said many times that “when I see the light at the end of the tunnel, I just want to be at the end of the tunnel!”

In other words, I appreciate change, as long as the process doesn’t go on too long. That’s why aging is a fascinating process. Each stage of life has its thresholds, but each day is also new. Fresh. There’s something else to notice and to learn. Remembering this helps me stay with the process itself, rather than waiting—or fearing—for it to be “over.”

That’s the attitude I want to always cultivate, until I pass through that final liminal space, hopefully many decades from now.

How about you? What are your favorite times of year, or of the day? How do you feel about thresholds?

best wishes — Thorn
