On Presence

and strength

Hello friends,

This is a short missive this week because I’m off camping—which yes, is a privilege for those of us with stable homes in the US right now—taking a much needed break for body and soul. I hope you are well, and navigating the world as best you can.

Because I knew I’d be away from the internet, I pondered what I message I wanted to leave you with…

And then I got a tea tag. You know. Those messages from the cosmos—or whoever designs the packaging for the tea company—that give us a little affirmation for the day? Yeah. One of those.

This one read: “Your strength is shared when you are present for others.”

Simple, but true. Being fully present in life is a practice. It takes conscious effort. For some of us, this is minor, but for others of us, it can feel like a herculean task.

Regardless of whether presence feels easy or difficult for us as individuals, collectively it is indeed our greatest strength. Can we make a pact to be present with someone else this coming week, whether in sorrow or in joy?

I hope in turn, there is someone out there who can share a moment of presence with you, too.

Wishing us all strength — Thorn
