Poetry and Punk
keep life interesting
Hello friends,
I hope you are well, wherever you are.
Today, as spring continues to unfold during these pandemic times, I return, as always, to my love of music. Live music is one of my favorite treats, and I’ve been missing it during the pandemic.
That said, YouTube has been feeding me some intriguing stuff via a bunch of new-to-me artists. It also recently fed me a startling new piece from an artist I’ve long loved: punk rock icon Iggy Pop. I’ve seen Iggy live twice, and he’s one of the best performers I’ve ever seen. The man explodes onto stage and does not stop until the last song rings in the audience’s ears.
Well, he recently recorded himself reciting Dylan Thomas’s immortal poem about aging and death: Do Not Go Gentle Into that Good Night. It doesn’t disappoint.
I hope you enjoyed that.Meanwhile, here are a few poets I follow on Instagram or Twitter and/or support via Patreon: Tanaya Winder, Jessie Sandoval (HeavyGirlPoetry), Iaian Thomas (realiainsthomas), Ijeoma Umebinyuo (theijeoma), PoetryByBoots, and well, too many others really. I’m glad there’s still poetry in the world, and that punk lives on.
How about you?
blessings - Thorn
