Our Healing
can be beautiful
Hello friends,
On one of my walks this week, I was stopped by a glimmer in the corner of my eye. It was a lozenge of tree sap, shining in the sun. It looked like a perfect amber pendant, quite beautiful and hard to capture with a photo, though I tried.
Continuing my walk I thought about the fact that tree sap gets pushed out when there is a wound that needs to heal.
It made me wonder about our human healing processes. Oftentimes, the things we think make us ugly and unloveable are the very things that help us shine. But that only happens when others see our healing for themselves. It reminds me of the Tim Kreider quote:
To be known is to be made vulnerable. But to not be known is to grow brittle and harsh over time. Eventually, that which is brittle always breaks.
Being a writer and reader, this also reminds me of the best characters: we always see their weaknesses and perceived flaws. That makes them more interesting, doesn’t it? Just like that tree with its shining jewel of sap: I wouldn’t have paused to take a photo if that tree hadn’t been doing its best to heal, and looking gorgeous in the process.
Wishing you well — Thorn
