Who You Are
Hello friends,
It’s my favorite time of year, no matter which side of the equator you live on.
Perhaps because I was born around the autumnal equinox, equinoctial times of year are where I feel most comfortable. I like liminal spaces. Dusk. Dawn. Thresholds of all sorts. Now, while I would happily live in a state of extended autumn, the thing I like most about thresholds?
You pass through them. Thresholds are, by their nature, temporary, shifting states. Reminders that the way humans mark both time and space is a construct. Even mountains are in flux. It’s just hard for us—so much shorter lived—to tell.
So, pushing through thresholds, and delighting in liminal spaces? That’s part of my nature. This is coupled with impatience—not always one of my favorite personality traits—that goads me on, getting me through the most difficult times.
Other ways in which I’m liminal? I never really feel like I fit in, so early on, I realized I may as well be myself. This often meant standing out. It wasn’t that I intended to stand out, it was that the status quo never felt comfortable or right, so I rejected it. Gender didn’t make sense. Corporate jobs didn’t make sense. Bowing to external authority didn’t make sense.
I went with what made sense to my soul: I gloried in the gloaming. I danced at the edges. I immersed myself in words and images. I embraced the witches, the artists, the queers, and the crows.
How about you? What are some of the things that make up who you are?
best wishes — Thorn
