long term
Hello Friends,
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the long term and longevity in all its forms. What feels long term in your life? Do you have long term hobbies? Habits? Friends? Goals? Illness? Loneliness? Fears? Hopes? Family? Community? Dreams?
What helps you notice these longstanding facets of your life?
And what helps when it is time to reassess?
This month’s essay is all about long term thinking, and why this moment, now, is a good time to assess our goals and strategies, both as individuals and in community.
Here are a few things I wrote about in The Long Haul:
Covid-19 and its variants and the consequences of the bungled response from governments and all the rest? Not going away.
Refugees? Not going away.
Climate disaster—which many of us have been shouting warnings about for decades? Not going away.
Greed and the consequently brutal poverty? Not going away.
We are living in the new normal, and we need to figure out how we can adjust to treating this as the long haul…
Slow down. Take a deep breath in. Pause a moment. Then exhale, slowly.
If the world we live in now is indeed the new normal, how can you adjust?
How will you adjust?
What personal choices and plans must you reassess?
What community efforts are possible?
Where do you fit in?
Please read the rest here. I welcome your thoughts on the topic, and am—as always—wishing you well.
best wishes— Thorn
