If you could

what would you plant?

Hello Friends,

It’s the equinox today, a time of balance, a brief moment of equilibrium, when together, earth and sun take a breath.

In the northern hemisphere, the soil begins to warm and open, the worms awaken, the animals frisk and the birds sing as if it is the best day ever.

Today, I dug holes and planted flowers. Vegetables will come later, and usually, I’m planting things other than vegetation, leaving that to the gardener of the family. Usually, I’m planting words, ideas, or practices. But right now? After the past year?

It felt important to plant physical things. It feels important to nurture tangible beauty.

So today, I got dirty, dug holes, spread compost, and planted some promises.

I lurched about the garden with my poor beleaguered brain throwing me off balance, but I did it. Post-concussion syndrome or not, it’s the equinox, damn it, and the pansies and rhododendron, the snapdragons and ranunculus and some sort of bright purple daisies, made the gray, damp, shivery day a good moment to be alive. What are you planting?

What do you dream of planting?

If you could nurture and grow anything in the world right now, what would it be?

  • Choose one thing for yourself.

  • Choose one thing for your friends and family.

  • Choose one thing for the world.

Even if it is only a nascent idea right now, or a barely spoken home, breathe that planting into being.

Wishing us all a moment of time to enjoy just breathing and just being.
