Altars Of Joy

and the day to day

Hello friends,

Years ago, someone staying at my home said, “I can’t tell where I can set things down, because everything looks like an altar.”

Busted. I do make little altars all over the place. Part of it is that my mind needs to group things. Stuff scattered everywhere? Bothers me. Stuff formed into tiny groups on a tray or hung on a wall, or simply clustered together on a dresser top? Grateful, happy, sigh.

For me, altars make everything right with the world. Order and harmony is restored. My heart feels lighter and my mind can focus.

Altars not only make me happy, they remind me to pause. To notice. To take a grateful breath. Life isn’t just about work—though I do work a lot. Life is not about stress. Life isn’t just about the world’s ills.

No. Life is also about joy. And for me? It’s the little things that make me happiest.

a cluster of tea spoons in a glass jar, some are black, some are silver with the spoon bowls shaped like little skulls.

It’s these little things that get me through the day to day: A cup of tea. The art on our walls. The walks I take. Watching birds and squirrels.

Making little altars.

How about you? Do you make altars everywhere? And what are some of the small things bringing you joy right now?

best wishes — Thorn
